22A028 Presidential Ignorance by Jim Davies, 7/12/2022

On June 24th, SCOTUS removed the rule that first- and second-trimester abortions shall be available nationwide, by overturning Roe v Wade; and alleged-President Biden reacted as summarized here. He was not a happy camper. The Courtiers' opinion is not of much interest to me, since the matter is properly for the pregnant woman herself to choose, as shown in A Pox on Roe?; but his intemperate, inept remarks about it fairly take the biscuit. Take a look:

"This fall, Roe is on the ballot." Rubbish! Roe is a judicial opinion, good, bad, or irrelevant; and no action by either the Prez or the Congress can affect it. It's true that Congress could enact a new law, of the form "Abortion shall not be prohibited by any State" but then the whole circus of appealing its constitutionality would begin all over again. 8% Joe needs to get his brain in gear.

"Personal freedoms are on the ballot." No, they are not (if they were, I might even v*te!) because personal freedoms are subject only to Nature, not to any branch of government. Freedoms can be (and are being) violated in practice, but the right to them is inextinguishable; so again, Brain-Dead Biden needs to do his homework.

"The right to privacy, liberty, equality, they're all on the ballot" Wrong again! Not one of them is subject to majority voting - as follows.

If one could vote for privacy (and get it) government would be prohibited from all surveillance of our persons and property. No tax return would be allowed, for those uncover our financial privacy. No email or phone spying would be permitted, so the NSA would be shuttered. No CCTV would be operable by any government, for that reveals where we are at specific times and places, while all of that information is private and its exposure is a gigantic fishing expedition carried out in gross violation of Amendment Four; likewise all ID documents like passports and driver licenses and SS cards would be canceled - the whole, repulsive paraphernalia of government espionage and control.

As for liberty, whom does he think he's kidding? Is freedom something that can be enjoyed only if the majority permits it? That would be a direct and egregious contradiction.

Equality is fatuous; Biden failed to specify whether he means equality of opportunity or of outcome, or perhaps of "standing" before the Law. Is there anyone with a pulse, who supposes anyone can now obtain any semblance of justice in tbe government court monopoly, without paying inordinate sums to government-licensed lawyers? More pertinent yet: the whole, absurd circus of political elections expressly centers on promises that certain favored groups will be rewarded at the expense of others; if we were truly "equal", no candidate would have any leverage whatever and their pretense of democracy would crumble.

"The court has done what it has never done before: expressly take away a constitutional right..." No, it has not; the right to control one's own body comes from human nature, not from the Constitution. The latter does not grant a single right; it just records what its authors said government can and cannot do. Not even the Supreme Courtiers can remove a provision that isn't there.

I wonder whether Biden's gross failure to grasp what the Constitution is all about is a result of stupid ignorance or of malevolent deception, wielded in the hope that the populace, schooled by socialist teachers, won't notice. Senile though he is, on the whole I doubt he can be that dumb.

The alternative remains.
