24A034 Haters and Hypocrites by Jim Davies, 0/3/2024
For a couple of decades or more, part of American society has preached against what it calls "hate." To speak disrespectfully of some group (with black skin, for example) is "hate speech." If a committed crime is found to be motivated by such disregard it's classified as a "hate crime" and attracts extra penalties; see for example this from UC Berkeley: "A criminal act or attempted criminal act against an individual or group of individuals because of their actual or perceived race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, or disability [is a hate crime.]" - and snitching thereon is encouraged by that University, so setting student against student. The difference between that and the practices of the Stasi, Gestapo and KGB escapes me. America consists of immigrants or those decended from them (yes, including "native Americans") and since way back when, slurs, insults and jokes have been hurled at every incoming national and racial group; Jews, Russians, Irish, German, Polish, Swedes, and so on. Names have been coined to refer to those groups, and have been sometimes used unkindly and rudely. Is that hatred? - did those who entered yesterday really hate today's newcomers? Perhaps sometimes, yes. But as a general rule? - no way. Real hatred is far more savage than that. It's a visceral detestation of the person or persons referenced. It is usually accompanied by an intention or a wish to do them violence, whether executed or not. Sadly, to see expressions of hatred one need only join a social medium which censors little or nothing, and read the comments. Foul language is normal, and violence against someone's hate object is requested; "Nuke Wall Street" is one I noticed recently. From the context it's clear that the author hated not so much the office buildings as the people who work in them. Such gutter talk marks an immature mind, one unable or unwilling to consider rationally the merits of a financial system based on the widespread ownership of capital - or even to express itself in passably decent English. And well-advanced sociopathy. So much for the gutter, for the dregs of humanity who lack empathy. In the past, such hatred has not been typical of even vigorous political contests; a candidate will draw attention to the poor proposals of his rival, but visceral hatred is rare. Until, that is, the Democratic Party's 2024 Convention last month. At its entrance was a jumbo-screen presentation, to express what it was about. It was filled to the brim with hatred and vulgarity. Someone filmed it and The Daily Bell displays it here; I don't recommend you watch it because it reeks of bad language and disgusting imagery. But if you must, there it is. If not, take my word and that of the Bell: it tells the world that today's Democrats believe:
To my mind the most hateful single expression came from Kamala Harris, who wants to become President. She said in her acceptance speech: "the U.S. will have the strongest, most lethal fighting force" in the world. "Most lethal". So in Harris' vision, America will be pre-eminent in killing human beings. That is about as hate-filled as anyone can get; it's an intent to be the biggest, baddest bully on the block, and far from making anyone great (as in, MAGA) it makes us deservedly detested everywhere. Ironic indeed, that the far Left, which now dominates that Party and the country, should be bursting with real hatred while preaching against bogus "hate." After these hate-possessed political hypocrites have been deprived of power, the resulting free society may have some hateful individuals; it can't be perfect, though it will be optimal. The rest of society will shun them, for everyone will have learned that everyone else is of value to him in one way or another; so those exceptions will be very few.
