24A044 The Red-Shift by Jim Davies, 11/12/2024

It will take a while to find out the key reasons that US voters turned away from the ruling Democrats and elected not just Donald Trump as President, but enough Congresscritters to give his party control of both House and Senate.

I'll not try to pre-judge the findings of pollsters and analysts, but will note how remarkable is the change. It wasn't quite a landslide (there are still some blue patches here and there) but it came close.

There are some obvious reasons: an obviously infirm and incapable Prez in 8% Joe Biden, who stubbornly refused to quit until late in the day; a replacement in the form of a woman of obviously limited intellect whose background was in Marxist philosophy and in prosecution of lawbreakers (about half of whom were drug-related, and hence innocent of real krime.)

What, though, will be the probable effect of the Trump victory on the prospects for freedom?

First and foremost, the insane and extremely dangerous US proxy war against Russia is likely to end very soon, and that is a key prerequisite. Freedom from government is meaningless if we are all turned into radioactive dust.

So it provides us with a 4-year breathing space. A vital opportunity. I'm glad he won.

Beyond that, not much. Some conservative values are likely to re-appear, and they are fine and wholesome for the most part, so that's good but it's not the same. I've not seen or heard from Republicans any promises to make drastic cuts in the size and scope of government. Trump's signature theme of stopping illegal immigration will actually reduce individual liberty, and his failure to propose to do it simply by ending the welfare offered to migrants shows he prefers force to freedom.

There were references in his rhetoric to inflation and promises to cut it, but no evidence that he understands what is its cause (money printing) and so it's not easy to believe he will do it; though just by ending the huge subsidies to Ukraine using freshly-created "dollars" may incidentally have that good effect.

Whether the long list of government intrusions (begun in the adjacent graphic) will be seriously reduced is doubtful, and may depend on how much influence is retained by Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk, who are in his "good squad"; I hope they exercise a lot, though Musk's first known plan is to make the FedGov more efficient, rather than to slash its size and scope. Not the same thing.

Another key member of that squad is R F Kennedy, and if he is tasked with ending the Medical Industrial Complex, of which he has specialist knowledge, that would be a very big improvement especially for the country's health. Whether or not he will be, has not been explicitly promised.

In summary (and in line with Few Great Expectations) I doubt that the second Trump Presidency will do a whole lot more to advance freedom than the first; but it won't make things worse and will be infinitely better than one under Commie Kamala and so will, as stated, provide us with a little more time. What use will you make of it?

The aim must be nothing less than the total abolition of all government, so as to introduce the Anarchist Alternative and a new era of freedom and prosperity. If any reader new to this Blog can suggest a better way please let me know, but the only means to that end which I can see is so to educate the entire population that nobody will work for government. It will then totally implode. One good way to provide that re-education is The On Line Freedom Academy, and if you're not already a graduate this is an excellent moment to begin.
